Alicia Self is a Sydney-based artist whose mastery lies in the world of oil and charcoal paintings, an unusual mix. Her works are a culmination of her traumatic life experiences, but she also captures the very essence of her emotional state at any given time. Each stroke of her palette knife is carefully crafted to evoke the most visceral of responses, as she delves deep into the depths of her soul. Alicia Self's works are a visual representation of her emotional journey.

I can't explain my art... if I could then I wouldn't have painted it. What I can say is that the year 2023 had been quite contemplative. Dealing with things internally and I believe that has come out in my work. My art reflects the tangled web of feelings and thoughts that I experience. I believe an artist's mind is quite different than most. It has no barriers and is a place where imagination takes flight, emotions are transformed into creations, and ideas are formed into visual manifestations. As an artist I express the unseen, the things that can only be felt. Painting is the best way to embody my thoughts and perspectives and anyone who knows me will tell you I'm horrible at opening up, but I will paint it. I open up in my work when the doors are closed, and the world is locked outside, and I find my peace.
